#4 Seat Electronics Box - United Flight 93 on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
Two years ago I had the opportunity to intern at the American History Museum in DC. One of the things I was able to work on was with materials recovered from United Flight 93. Now that objects are on display, I feel that I can share the images that I took.
A seat electronics box would have been used to connect the seats to the inflight entertainment systems. On a United 757 in 2001, the coach cabin primarily had tv’s mounted in the ceiling with only audio jacks in the armrests, which leads me to believe that this unit was in the first class cabin. The first class cabin would have had a tv at each seat, or 2 per row. While the visible side of this box shows one serial input/ouput, the other side of the box had two. Clearly damaged, this sturdy device highlights the impact as the unit was mount behind the seats.
