Almodovar del Río castle (by monchoparis) Almodovar’s Castle is a military fortress originally build by the Arabs in 740 taken an advantage of an ancient building of primitive period. Playing an important part in the defense of Córdoba for its strategic location dad is situated on a hill about alongside the Guadalquivir Rivir at that time navegable by small Rivir boats. After the reconquest by Ferdinand III “The Saint” the Castle was subjected to severals expasions by the Spanish Kings specificly by D. Peter I of Castille and Henry II from Trastámara. Afterwards in 1629 the Castle was sold by King Philip IV to Fransisco Corral y Guzmán and since then the Castle belongs to the same family. In the present, the Castle keeps his magnificents state thanks to a big restauration carrried out by D. Rafael Desmaissieres y Farina XII Count of Torralba during this restauration from 1901 till 1036 when the Spanish Civil War started. [from www.castillodealmodovar.com]
